Blog Entry 4-Target Audience

In our teaser trailer, we have targeted a male audience as they seem to be the more dangerous, adrenaline seeking audience, that also like to watch more daring fictional films. This is going to be achieved by including male characters, who are going to be in dangerous life threatening situations, which allows the male viewers to emphasise with some of the characters. It could also attract a small minority of women as it has an emotional, realist background story included, which could allow the women to feel sorry for the main character and sympathise with him. This film will be strictly 18+ as it will include graphic violence scenes, which will hold nothing back and the visceral sense of graphic, gory scenes. As well as this the cinema 'going' audiences are increasingly growing older, (as shown above) this is because many young adults tend to stream or download films, as it is much cheaper and easier. Also our film shows the life of those living in poverty and growing up in a tough abusive environment, which could result in a higher class of people, viewing our film vying to be educated on such a subject or those that have survived that kind of upbringing, to be grateful for how they have overcame their own personal experiences, thus slightly giving them a positive outlook on their current life, resulting in a satisfying film experience. As well as all of these background reasons, we are also hoping this will be a big hit in the horror community, with the natural thrill seekers, which without fail should be the biggest percentage of our audience.The main character is from an American background. However this is set in a British background, and most of the nurses and doctors will be British. When doing research we found out American related films are much more popular than British films, so in being successful we will try to integrate the two.



In order to generate an attraction to our product, we have decided to create our trailer based on a true story,  to give the trailer a fictional element to it which also includes truth. We have decided to do this because we have prior awareness that people tend to enjoy watching films which are horror orientated and based on truth, for example The Exorcist was a very big hit. Our film will also be a big hit because it allows the audience to leave and feel as if the same scenario can arise at anytime in their life (although its very unlikely it will). Many people also have fears of these exact situations or are just generally scared of horror movies, so with this we are also hoping this will help people overcome their fears. Many people also like to feel educated or like to have the know how on historical events, which is why we have included the truth element to our film, to give the viewer an educational fulfilment as well as not taking the entertainment value out of the film (which is what documentaries generally do). Along with young adults, we intend to attract horror fans who enjoy gory and disturbing images and could bring their girlfriends to get close and intimate. Moreover, we have noticed through our thorough research that couples and/or parents enjoy the atmosphere because the scenes are frightening enough for the male figure to make the opposite sex feel protected and safe.
